The purpose of the ASS system used in Yamaha (commonly known as AIS Air Induction System) is to provide fresh air filtered from the AIR-BOX casing to the exhaust duct to reduce harmful emissions to the atmosphere.
In the case of sport motorcycles, the installation of block off plates is recommended after system modifications. With no system, precise tuning of the engine can be achieved without AFR reading disturbances.
Additional advantages are weight reduction and no need to service the system.
